Tips & information
Como sits at the southern tip of its lake, and its compact old town — the walled Città Murata around the Duomo — is largely pedestrian, with a ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) and almost no street parking near the water. The sensible plan is to leave the car in one of the ring of garages and lots and walk in; nearly everything in the centre is within a 5-to-20-minute stroll. Prices vary sharply by how close to the lake you are: the lakefront Centro Lago garage and Parking Jasca put you right by the water but charge a premium (around €3/hour and up), while a few minutes inland the Autosilo Valduce runs about €1.50/hour and is the locals’ value pick. The Arena del Teatro Sociale lot is the closest to the Duomo but has no daily cap, so it suits short visits. For a longer or cheaper stay, head for the edges — Parcheggio Santarella is around €5 for the day, Quarto Ponte is unbeatable by the week, and Parcheggio di via Regina is genuinely free with a frequent bus into town. Below you will find each option with prices, quirks and walking times drawn from recent visitor reviews — plus a short list of hotels picked because parking with them, whether free on-site or a clearly explained nearby garage, is genuinely easy.
