Tips & information

Empuriabrava is a purpose-built canal-and-marina resort — the “Venice of Spain,” with the largest residential marina in Europe — so parking here is the opposite problem to a medieval old town. There is plenty of space, and for much of the year it is free; the catch is summer, when the big beach car parks flip to paid and fill up fast. The main seafront lot, at the foot of the Club Nàutic off Passatge Salins, is free from roughly October to May and paid (with machines) from June to September — huge, central, a minute from the sand, but packed in July and August, so come early. Nearby, the Fabra Pompeu blue-zone lot runs about €5 a day (pay it: an unticketed fine jumps to €90), with free spaces within 200 metres. The beachfront Port Primer lot is handy for a car but has a ~2.1m height barrier, so campervans are turned away — motorhomes should head instead to the free municipal motorhome area on the edge of town (basic, no services, and watch your belongings). The happier news is for anyone choosing a hotel: unlike a city, most of Empuriabrava’s resort hotels have their own parking, often free — from Hotel Castell Blanc’s “plenty of free secure parking” and Ampuria Inn’s free lot to reserved spaces at the Pierre & Vacances marina apartments and indoor parking at Hotel Port Salins. Below, every car park lists what it really costs and when, with walking times to the beach and the marina, plus hotels picked for how easy they make arriving by car.

Frequently asked questions

Is parking free in Empuriabrava?
For much of the year, yes. The main beach car parks — including the big lot at the foot of the Club Nàutic off Passatge Salins — are free from roughly October to May. From June to September they turn paid (with ticket machines), and they fill up fast, so arrive early in high summer. There is also free parking a little back from the seafront, such as in the Alberes sector.
How much does beach parking cost in summer?
The blue-zone lots, such as the one on Carrer Fabra Pompeu, charge about €5 for the day — buy a ticket at the meter, because an unpaid fine rises to €90 if it is not settled before midnight. The big Club Nàutic lot is paid June–September too; free spaces still exist within a couple of hundred metres if you look.
Can I park a campervan or motorhome in Empuriabrava?
Not at the beach lots — they have height barriers limiting entry to about 2.1m, and campervan drivers report being turned away. Instead use the dedicated municipal motorhome area on the Els Poliols edge of town, which recent reviews say is free (basic, with no services). Keep valuables out of sight, as some thefts have been reported there.
Which Empuriabrava hotels have their own parking?
Most do, which is the big advantage of a purpose-built resort. Hotel Castell Blanc and Hotel Ampuria Inn have free on-site parking; the Pierre & Vacances marina apartments come with a reserved space; Hotel Port Salins has indoor parking plus free street parking outside; and Xon’s Platja has secure underground parking. It is a far cry from the valet charges of a big-city stay.
